FactoryTalk View Site Edition: System Requirements

Product Profile | Ordering Information | System Requirements

  • Domain controller requirements — To ease network and user administration, a domain controller for all applications consisting of more than ten computers is recommended. All computers participating in a single application must be members of the same Windows domain. The FactoryTalk View Site Edition Server and FactoryTalk Directory must not be installed on the same computer as the domain controller.

For applications consisting of ten computers or fewer, FactoryTalk View Site Edition can be used in a Windows workgroup environment. When doing so, the following restrictions apply:

    • All computers participating in a single application must be members of the same Windows workgroup.
    • You must create the same set of user accounts and passwords on every computer participating in an FactoryTalk View Site Edition application. (For details, see the help provided with Windows.)
    • If any computer participating in an FactoryTalk View Site Edition application is running Windows XP, disable simple file sharing in Windows XP. (For details, see the help provided with Windows XP.)
    • All users participating in the workgroup must belong to the Administrators group.

  • Server host requirements — Server computers can be used to host FactoryTalk View Site Edition applications. To serve as a server host, the computer requires one FactoryTalk View Site Edition server, one data server (typically RSLinx for FactoryTalk View, RSLinx Enterprise, or another OPC-DA server), and one FactoryTalk Directory. If more servers are required, multiple host computers must be used to distribute the load.
  • Minimum platform requirements — Specific hardware requirements depend on the size and complexity of your FactoryTalk View Site Edition applications. In any application, faster CPUs and more RAM result in better performance.
  •  In addition, ensure sufficient disk space to provide virtual memory that is at least twice the size of the physical RAM.
