Server connections are separated in two types: one for connecting to Rockwell Automation data sources, primarily through FactoryTalk Live Data, and one for connecting to third-party data sources using OPC or any of the over 200 native connectors for the historian.

Factory Talk Historian Site Edition Servers now utilize Rockwell Automation's Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) service. Customers who order products designated for electronic delivery will receive an email confirmation of their order that will include any relevant license information and a link to download their software and Activation Certificate from the Internet. ESD offers customers faster delivery and eliminates freight charges.
